Hi everybody - atbd - 09-05-2015 Hi to all of you I'm a french student in signal/image processing but i also love computer science and *nix :) I was on ubuntu (few months) then archlinux few years ago but with college I needed a computer to work with and not to work on so I bought the only commercial unix I know, Mac OS. Now I have finished college and I want to come back to linux or maybe BSD, I want to customize my desktop and just have the useful things on my computer (unixporn addict :p ...) PS: I want to give a try to a BSD, i like the philosophy but it seems to be some issues sometimes with hardware. Is it possible to install it on a macbook pro mid-2012 ? I especially like OpenBSD RE: Hi everybody - cjm - 09-05-2015 Best of luck Friend. Welcome to the *nix RE: Hi everybody - venam - 10-05-2015 Quote:I needed a computer to work with and not to work on.Nice quote. Welcome to Nixers. RE: Hi everybody - bsdkeith - 10-05-2015 Not sure if you will be able to use OpenBSD on your machine, but take a look here http://www.openbsd.org/plat.html FreeBSD tends to support more computers because it has more drivers, take a look here https://www.freebsd.org/platforms/ (I don't know much about other BSDs.) RE: Hi everybody - z3bra - 10-05-2015 FRENCHIES ARE GETTING ON NIXERS AGAIN! BEWARE COMMUNITY, WE'RE COMING!! Welcome here, I hope you'll find what you're searching (you'll probably) RE: Hi everybody - fayesafe - 10-05-2015 Quote:FRENCHIES ARE GETTING ON NIXERS AGAIN! I have read of people getting Openbsd working on their 2012 MBP, however they needed to get an external wifi card and external mouse to get it to work. Netbsd also needs to have an external wifi card and mouse. I have not looked into installed Freebsd onto a MBP tho. RE: Hi everybody - atbd - 10-05-2015 Thanks, i'll go to the irc channel to know you :) A lot of french here for our invasion army ? I'll look for informations about freebsd/openbsd, if there is too much issues on mbp i'll come back to archlinux ;) RE: Hi everybody - xero - 11-05-2015 welcome to nixers |
