Hi! I'm xikuuky. - xikuuky - 24-12-2015

Hello! My name is Simon. I really like Linux and Unix. I run Void Linux. I am 14 currently living in Indonesia. I used to work on Manjaro's Openbox variant. I compile most programs I want to install. I use Musl instead of GCC. I like technology from suckless.org. :)

Thank you!

Binary optimization, musl out of the box, and to be a little different. :) I don't since I can't get libwebkit to work properlly.

Hey!
I wish I could find out how to make musl work with tcc.

RE: Hi! I'm xikuuky. - xikuuky - 25-12-2015

Hey! Have you seen this? https://github.com/GregorR/musl-cross
I saw a post where someone used this to make a musl-tcc. If you figure it out let me know so I can do it to. :)
I think I have musl building with it's libc. Good luck. :D

RE: Hi! I'm xikuuky. - z3bra - 26-12-2015

musl is not a compiler, its a libc, and I doubt voidlinux could be built without gcc. I started working on distro and tried to avoid GNU entirely. I ended up setting up a cross compiler based on musl and PCC but the sad truth is that too much software rely on GCC. Be it GCC itself, or the binutils (ld, as, ...).

Of your interrested, take a look at this: http://blog.z3bra.org/2015/08/cross-compiling-with-pcc-and-musl.html

But I am still really interrested in such thing, and I'm glad a new member brings the subject on the table! So welcome here, and I hope we'll be able to discuss it soon!

RE: Hi! I'm xikuuky. - xikuuky - 27-12-2015

Void Linux's Musl version has less packages and certain things don't build. But it is probably 80% Musl. Things like openVPN don't compile. I have already read your post. I am gonna try it when I can boot into Linux (downloading a large video game in Windows). Thank you Z3bra! :)

@xikuuky:
Have you looked into the "Requirements" section?
musl-cross depends on gcc.
@z3bra:
Yeah, I read your article. I have begun testing
if my software compiles with tcc as well as with
gcc without warnings, and fortunately the suckless
people make their software GNU-independent as well.
Unfortunately, I can't yet use musl with tcc, because
tcc gives a syntax error when including musl/stdio.h.
Maybe I'll try to find a fix for that.
