Now, because this has to be more than 17 chars, this useless sentence. RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - josuah - 03-07-2016 No, not a binary vision of the world! It can not be, not even for logos: I'll add one more category to break it: The "everyday life things logos", with a single one kitchen sink in it. Now, I can date a software's origin with its logo! With animal / abstract for older / newer. Penguins are fun! Everybody like penguins (but butterflies)! Extra free gnus! RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - pranomostro - 05-07-2016 »Glenda« comes from the Film »Glen or Glenda« by Ed Wood, who also directed »Plan 9 from outer space«. The film is about, like you said, transsexuality. Also note the logo of 9front, which is cirno, some anime character. For some reason, they decided glenda was outdated-totally weird. The 2f30 logo is pretty cool-it is also flat and abstract, but has some concrete meaning (division by zero: /0). The suckless logos are really like modern art, dead simple, with a brutalistic style. And there is also a new type of logo, which is used in lots of 'hipster' software: bright colors, abstract, although sometimes with a little reference to the name (electron logo, atom text editor logo, slack logo). I find it always interesting to judge a project simply by it's logo and then investigate it further and most of the times to be happy I was right with my judgement. RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - josuah - 05-07-2016 Quote:black and white fallacy A nice way to invite people to add other categories... Learned one more word today. Logo can also be a way to show its identity, with stickers on a laptop, clothes, etc. About 2f30, I can't tell which one of the logo ("/0") or the name is built on top of the other. RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - pranomostro - 06-07-2016 Very cool is also the nmap logo. It has a certain 90's aesthetic, being neither completely abstract nor concrete. Looks like it's just one poster, among others: https://mobile.twitter.com/marcvolovic/status/1122450147785547776 RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - seninha - 27-10-2020 (27-10-2020, 08:02 PM)zge Wrote: There was a Thread on Reddit a few months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/...nix_magic/ It links to a better, but not idea scan.Oh, thanks a lot! RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - venam - 22-03-2021 The initial podcast episode related to this was kind of abstract, maybe not well-researched, but the topic is interesting. Do you have cool artworks or logos that you like related to Unix you'd like to share? In some regions here it's normal to find people who sleeps in hammocks rather than beds. I find it much more comfortable (and practical, you can just fold it and have more space). RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - pfr - 09-05-2021 WOW, it turned out great! Can you tell me what size paper you used? I wouldn't mind getting one printed myself. Also, is that an X230 on your desk? RE: Logos and Artworks in the Unix World - seninha - 10-05-2021 (09-05-2021, 09:03 PM)Ramiferous Wrote: WOW, it turned out great! Can you tell me what size paper you used? I wouldn't mind getting one printed myself. I printed it in 1.000m×1.489m. It turned out to be too big... A regular poster here generally has ISO A2 to A0 size (A0 being the larger). The original UNIX Magic poster had the US Arch D size (approx. 24 inches × 36 inches). Damn, why does the US has its own standards for everything, even paper size? It's a T430 with a T420 keyboard. I'm following this modding guide.
