Greetings - Oddisyes - 09-01-2018 Hello, I go by Oddisyes (pronounced 'Odysseus'). I'm a junior in highschool living in America. I'm running Debian/Windows, on a desktop, and recently my mom got a new computer so I inherited her macbook pro (which is running macOS). I got a new raspberry pi for Christmas which is running Arch. In terms of ricing, yesterday I just started working on my macbook, and it's already starting to come together. (heres a r/unixporn post of my preliminary progress: https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comments/7ovcdo/browsing_runixporn_unixpornstyle/) It's been really fun using hammerspoon because I'm fairly proficient in lua and the api is amazing so I've been able to do a lot of atomization I haven't been able to do on debian. As for non ricing related things my main hobby is programming. I run a programming club at my school and participate in game jams occasionally. My favorite languages are probably c/c++ (tho I tend to stray away from new c++ stuff, templates are scary), lua, lisp and python. I have an aversion to other people code because figuring it out yourself is always more fun than having to learn a new api, or crying because you're getting weird errors that you don't understand because the library your using is so monolithic. I tend to make my projects either use minimal external dependancies, or make sure that the libraries/dependancies I'm using are simple, and managing them won't be my main concern. (a good example of what I'm talking about is I prefer flask to django, and when making games I don't use engines like unity or gotdot, but instead either use SDL2+OpenGL with c or love2d. When I'm not programming I'm getting legend in hearthstone, doing homework, or watching children's cartoons. This was probably awful and unreadable, but what were you expecting from a highschooler we're all idiots :) RE: Greetings - venam - 09-01-2018 You seem like you'll fit in nicely. You'll get over that with time. It's a good skill to take the time to learn and read other people's code. Welcome to nixers. I don't see any screenshots in that reddit link. RE: Greetings - pyratebeard - 09-01-2018 Ahoy there! Welcome to nixers RE: Greetings - Houseoftea - 09-01-2018 Welcome to nixers! Now all you have to do is put Debian on your MacBook Pro like I did ;) RE: Greetings - Oddisyes - 09-01-2018 (09-01-2018, 09:13 AM)Houseoftea Wrote: Welcome to nixers! I actually really like ricing macOS. Hammerspoon is awesome, and I already have a debian machine anyway. RE: Greetings - pkal - 10-01-2018 Welcome, hope you'll enjoy it here. Learning to read other peioles code, can olny help you. What have you done with regards to lisp? RE: Greetings - jkl - 10-01-2018 Welcome to nixers and kudos for the good taste in programming languages - C/C++ is lovely. :) RE: Greetings - Dworin - 10-01-2018 Welcome here and enjoy your stay RE: Greetings - xero - 17-01-2018 Quote: welcome to nixers |
