What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - pfr - 18-09-2020 Just curious what servers/channels you join, whether they are *nix related or not. I did search to see if there was a thread like this already but couldnt find one. I must admit, I often talk shit over on snoonet's #casualconversation. Besides everyone being super chill, they have gonzobot which is fun. What servers/channels are you joining? RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - z3bra - 18-09-2020 I don't have IRL friends to discuss unix/tech related topics, so I use IRC for that purpose. Most channels I join are for tech related communities I try to contribute to: #nixers.net, #bitreich, #2f30, #unix, #obsd4*, … I then have 2 other channels joined in: #wmutils (which remains desperatly empty), and a channel I use as a personnal whatsapp bridge. Sometimes I'll join specific channels like #crux or #vim-fr, but I seldom keep them open. I used to use bitlbee to connect to facebook messenger a couple of years ago, it it the same sort of thing? RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - z3bra - 18-09-2020 That's exactly the same thing indeed, except that I use matterbridge. I didn't know about bitlbee ! It looks interresting. RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - mcol - 18-09-2020 Interesting thread! I am always connected to #xorg and #nixers_net (freenode), #qtile (OFTC), and #pinephone (pine64). RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - s0kx - 18-09-2020 Currently running on my tilde.town shell: #rice #/g/punk #nixers_net #plan9 #kisslinux #ykkaria #cat-v I open up irc maybe 2-4 times a day, but never really say anything. RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - venam - 18-09-2020 That's a fun thread. On freenode I join #nixers_net and #lobsters. On efnet I join a public and private channel for #impure the ascii art group I'm part of. I definitely should take a look at the other channels mentioned in this thread. Anything at all... what you're cooking for dinner, sharing stories about your day, all the mundane things in your life.. There is no real set topic, its just... casual conversation. I just enjoy it because most irc chans have set topics and don't appreciates people taking conversations off topic. This chanel is a nice space to talk about anything you want. It's also great for your screenshots because there is a lot of activity so lots of nick colours :P RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - evbo - 18-09-2020 I've just joined back up in #nixers_net, so there's that :) I'm also super anxious about talking to people in real-time, so I tend to not say much in IRC. Trying to get over that but it's been tough. Maybe Ramiferous's suggestion of #casualconversation would be helpful there. I use znc to keep my connections open, and I usually hang out in: --- freenode --- ##c ##linux #gamingonlinux #artix #nixers_net ##roguelikedev --- QuakeNet --- #rgrd RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - neeasade - 18-09-2020 currently: https://github.com/neeasade/emacs.d/blob/5f8173ced31197efdd3b44c78375cae323e0f258/lisp/trees/irc.el#L41-L123 mostly #emacs, #code, and #nixers_net -- I have highlights for things I'm interested in talking about, like emacs, clojure, or nix -- so I'll be summoned on occasion just to see what's up RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - pyratebeard - 18-09-2020 On freenode I'm most active in #nixers_net & #dublinlinux (LUG channel). I also have #sysadmin on irc.darkscience.net open. Sometimes I will jump on to rizon and snoonet, but not so much recently. I mostly join tech/linux related channels. I have found channels related to some of my other interests but they are either dead or not interesting. RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - twee - 19-09-2020 I used to be a bit more active in a few channels, like #emacs and #lua, but now I only have a few - the nixers channel, one for some offline friends, and a few of the tilde.town internal ones. Over time I've moved towards preferring slower, longer form communication over irc. The town ones are somewhat programming-oriented in nature, but a lot more than just that gets discussed. We're all friends/friendly so even just saying hi and ask how people are going is the best way to start a casual conversation. I'm not in charge tho so someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.. but I don't see how casual chit chat and getting to know one another in the #nixers_net chat is a bad thing. We are all here for our shared interest in *nix things, but that doesn't mean that's all we have to talk about. Anyway, don't be shy, come say hi! \o RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - jkl - 19-09-2020 I’m on QuakeNet, freenode, PirateNet, MAGnet and rarely elsewhere. On freenode, I usually join my own channels and a lot of programming channels. On others, I won’t tell. :) RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - Dworin - 02-10-2020 I autoconnect to #nixers_net, #archlinux, #suckless and #luakit (between freenode and oftc, I keep mixing them up too, very annoying!) Might be joining you in #luakit soon. I just recently installed it again after we (NetBSD/pkgsrc users) got an update to luakit-2.2.1 I'm hoping they'll update to lua-5.3 soon as right now its built with lua-5.1, which is deprecated. It' been a long time since I've used luakit so I'll probably be asking a few questions on the irc. RE: What IRC channel's do you auto connect to? - yakumo.izuru - 17-04-2022 I'm on a variety of channels, three of which I manage, all on different networks. Also I'm making a rather intensive use of my bouncer which is running as my own user on a tilde. I'm often found with the alias 'novaburst' on IRC and whatnot.
