BlackBox is deprecated but you can still use it if you want.(openBox is the continuation/derivation of it)
Also, if you want something really nice checkout some tilling Window Manager

or

Fluxbox is pretty simple, I used it for a long time.

I still use fluxbox, it's great. It's so easy to configure and you don't need to know a language to configure most of it anyway. I've only gone as far as the menu config which is all plain english and custom theming. Fluxbox does what you want to do, I can't be bothered getting the hardcore WM's that a lot of people here use. I use autohide for the taskbar and it looks pretty sick.

Fluxbox.
No debate here.

Neither.

Code:
cd /usr/ports/x11-wm/
ls
cd into the directory of the WM you want.
Code:
make install clean

Then call the WM from .xinitrc using the full path.

Code:
whereis <wm-name>

Mine are in /usr/local/bin/
So in .xinitrc I have the following:
Code:
exec /usr/local/bin/waimea
