Darn 32-bit integers! lol

RE: 2038 - The Borking of Unix Systems Across the World - venam - 30-01-2013

Be sure that until then no-one will run on 32 bit machines anymore.
At least the users will not be able to purchase 32 bit machines.
The problem will be for the legacy servers all around the world.
But I'm sure there'll be a solution for that.
Remember the unix community is a hacking community.
We'll even hack the time itself!

Heard about this... seems ridiculous to be honest... does windows have this issue? what about linux? why just unix? shit doesn't make sense or have i missed something?

and by 2038 people should be on 128-bit OS'S by then (and if we're not? then we are a slow slow developing race) but no doubt 'some idiot' out there will be running XP Pro 32 in 2038 lol.

RE: 2038 - The Borking of Unix Systems Across the World - venam - 30-01-2013

it's unix time.
All current systems use that.

RE: 2038 - The Borking of Unix Systems Across the World - Lith - 30-01-2013

0.o

"blushes"

damn lol

RE: 2038 - The Borking of Unix Systems Across the World - Dritz - 31-01-2013

I don't think Winblows uses Unix time...

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mikekelly/archive/2009/01/17/unix-time-and-windows-time.aspx

But I think Linux does.

RE: 2038 - The Borking of Unix Systems Across the World - venam - 31-01-2013

# #include <time.h>
check that library Dritz
lot of programs on windows and on *nix uses that library and this library uses unix time.

Oh wow! I think a lot of people aren't aware of this! (Like me, until just now)

Like that guy in the video, I plan on making a lot of money in 2038. LOL

Sounds a lot like the old "Y2K" BS.
I should hope to be using something better than a 32 bit system by 2038 anyway. :)

Don't worry - we'll be doomed two years before 2038.
