Apart from being able to use another login manager there isn't really any advantage. Having everything in .xinitrc and slim.conf was much easier.

My work in progress window manager is almost usable now (far from complete/bugfree/convenient, but usable) :D The windows on the right are docked, not floating. I can hide/show/undock them via keyboar...
