Only fluent in English. But I took french all throughout primary school (2nd - 12th grade), and have spent some time in France. Je parle un peu de francais, mais ce n'est pas trop bien ;)

English as a first language, learning Spanish (had Spanish in high school but didn't really learn it)

The fact that I have a crush on a girl who speaks Spanish as her first language, and doesn't know much English, is kind of motivating me this time around.

Hope she's helping you. I can help with your Spanish if you're feeling that motivated.

If you don't mind, I'd like to revive this thread because it was a good thread and a way for we to introduce ourselves better.

With fluency, I speak Portuguese (my native language), English (the language I needed to learn to study), and Esperanto (the language I learned in a year I had nothing better to do).
I understand Galician, a bit of Spanish (or should I say Portuñol: a mix of Português & Español) and a bit of Italian.
I want to learn Latin and Māori, and I know a bit of their grammar and word patterns, but not much of their vocabulary (especially for Māori).
Languages I want to learn and I know nothing of are: German, Russian and Georgian.

Nice to see this thread revived.

I speak Norwegian (mother tongue), English, I'm learning French in school and know just a tiny bit Russian.

Finnish (native), English, Swedish and just a tiny tiny bit of Italian.
Oh how I envy you people who don't have to study a minimum of three languages.

I can read German to some extent, can understand someone speaking it to a lesser extent (if they don't go too fast), but can only write or speak it at a very elementary level.

Some of that carries over to other Germanic languages like Dutch, Swedish, or Norwegian. I'd like to learn Dutch, since it's closer to the language of my ancestors (they spoke the Limburgish dialect).

I can sometimes make sense of things written in French, but the spoken language leaves me baffled.
Dittos for Spanish.

That's it.

I.e., not much more than a typically ignorant American.

wow, a lot of people in here know more than two languages.
English (fluent)
Portuguese (fluent)
to increase the numbers and look smarter than i actually am:
Spanish (able to understand, mostly)
German (a little bit. started to learn but got too lazy to continue)

Let's make the thread of the week a bit off-topic (this doesn't mean you should go on big tangents, keep it civil).
Since, we're all having fun sharing our workflows and getting to know each others better, let's ask again things like "what language do you speak".

As jkl would say: The language we all speak is broken english.
In retrospect, it's fascinating that a bunch of random people from all around can get online and share stuff about their hobbies. Cheers!

Good quote above!

Also, my attempts at adding Japanese have not come any further during the pandemic - I even unlearned Greek!

First post - neat way to introduce oneself.

Ordered by fluency (descending):
- Hebrew (I'm Israeli, pretty close to @venam, hey neighbor !)
- English
- Russian
- Georgian (Kartuli)

My parents immegrated from a post-USSR Georgia @ 1994, which explains the latter two.

Happy to be here !
