I'm currently using OpenSuse, but I've been thinking about trying BSD. this section has some really good information. Thanks to everyone who have contributed.

Tried this on my previous 8.3 FreeBSD system and it wouldn't boot after doing so. :(

I wrote this for 9.0, could be one of the options set something that shouldn't have been changed on 8.3 and caused hangs at boot, you'd have to debug it and say which line it was that actually broke it.

Well, it works fine for 9.0. Feels a bit snappier.

There are a lot more tunable options that you can change to increase performance and responsiveness.

Quite a few file system tweaks, memory tweaks etc. Unlike Linux which enables most of these by default, FreeBSD doesn't to keep stability.
