This is exciting! I'm not an expert in the field of security but I do enjoy playing wargames such as the ones on http://wechall.net . Maybe you can check those, some of the websites hold CTF sometimes (I can't compete much myself.) It's also cool to know that some knowlege of Unix can help a lot in challenges.
