On windows, even people with _lot_ of knowledge can't easily mess with regedit: it's full of hashes which represent pointers, hidden values, and the like. It's also a set of binaries disseminated in various (undocumented, of course) places, and can't be easily versioned. A system you can't easily version, is also a system you can't easily patch, and thus, moving it toward a stable state will be harder (using tools like cfengine3, ansible, drist, rex, etc). |
