Here's a screenshot showing two of my music folders. I find those text displays rather difficult to wade through. Mainly because I feel like the subdirs are not necessary.

Well, if you have an outrageously large library that is. And being that I prefer a total discography, and some artists/bands have 10-20+ years of music, it's a lot.

Don't mind the weirdness, it's sxiv minus borders and a smaller font to fit all the dirs in one display on the left.

Man is the ls behavior of putting single quotes around filenames with spaces a new thing? I've only noticed it recently (though I am on Debian sid), confused the hell out of me at first.

It appears to be so... it's the same on my girlfriend's computer. I was too, thought I fuckered something up.

Yeah they changed the default behavior of the ls command. it's easy to get the old behavior back though. But yeah, it freaked me out at first
