Most of my world is also tied to windows. I'm usually called a Project Engineer that includes budgets, scheduling, hardware and software. Almost all the software is proprietary. The best thing to happen in the last 5 or 6 years has been creating VM's (w/VMware) of all the different systems we use and placing them on the network. It made for consistency across engineering and one source for updates. I use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS w/ Unity its mostly stock with simple wallpaper and color tweaks ... I like it.

Edit: my boss has a hardon for jeans even on Friday. We have to wear a button down shirt and kackis better than wearing ties like back in the day.
