I'm using two term emulators in that screenshot, the transparent one is xterm and the one on the right is urxvt.
I remember there were issues with urxvt and the XCB library, for example the depth that removed the borders.

Speaking of which ... here's a toy for the lazy guys: siv3 (scrot). Convert image files to unicode block elements + ANSI colors.
