Forum Design Changes - jmbi - 10-06-2014

It's the summer of 2014 and we're doing some pretty major overhauls around here. We're working on a light theme for the forums, it will be a much cleaner and simpler look for the place and we think it's a step up. For some other things we wanted to ask you guys for your opinions.

Some things I am thinking about removing:
  • "Thank" button and function, most of the time we end up saying thanks anyways.
  • "Posts: #", "Joined: x", "Thanks: x Given: x" from the right side of the poster header.
Please give me your input and let me know what else you would want changed. Thanks.

I would agree about the thanks feature, since we talk about most threads on IRC or just comment.

It looks like the background-color is not set so it takes the default background-color of the browser.

Some aspects looks shitty to me:
  • GIF icons do not display (I get 404 on everything in http://nixers.net/images)
  • I can't see the difference between old threads and threads with a new post
  • There is two "Quote" buttons
  •  The "NIXERS" link is not displayed if you're not logged in
  • The eternal problem of images that don't fit the fixed size

Otherwise, I like this new theme. It looks more welcoming to me. Will see how it goes on the long term

It seems we have figured out the problem:

User CP > Edit Options > Thread View Options > "View posts in classic mode" should be <font color="red"><b>DISABLED</b></font>

I actually preferred the white background image and slightly darker posts.

Solution: Use a css3-generated background pattern instead of an image. And make it gracefully fall back to a plaincolor background in browsers where css3 isn't implemented.
