Hello nixers, This presentation shows how someone buys a mainframe from ebay for not much (around $300) and get it running in his basement. It's very impressive and interesting. The mainframe is running Z/OS a Unix-like OS. What do you think of that? Would you like to get a huge old machine in your basement, or do you already have some? | |||

Guess you're talking about this presentation. I'd love to get one of those machine, not on my basement tho. It's a pain somewhere I don't want one.

The hardware is so specific and outdated that I see no reason to, it would not even be valuable for your employment prospects. Experimenting with RISC-V would be much more interesting and valuable long term.

If all you do needs to increase your employment prospects, your whole life is work.
