Hello nixers,
This presentation shows how someone buys a mainframe from ebay for not much (around $300) and get it running in his basement.

It's very impressive and interesting.

The mainframe is running Z/OS a Unix-like OS.

What do you think of that?
Would you like to get a huge old machine in your basement, or do you already have some?

Guess you're talking about this presentation.

I'd love to get one of those machine, not on my basement tho. It's a pain somewhere I don't want one.

If here where I live the electricity bill wasn't so expensive... It used to be a dream, lol.

The hardware is so specific and outdated that I see no reason to, it would not even be valuable for your employment prospects. Experimenting with RISC-V would be much more interesting and valuable long term.

If all you do needs to increase your employment prospects, your whole life is work.
