Could you elaborate on why you want to prevent visitors from searching?

In my opinion I think there should be no difference or bias for any thread posted on the forums, be it old or new, they're all valid topics of discussion. That applies twice as much for guests.

As far as the the New Posts and Today's Posts are concerned, I think they are ok for persons who have accounts so that they can follow up on the discussions they are currently having and reply to them.

It's debatable though, I'm open for new ideas.

That would work, even to keep the discussion flowing. I have no clue how to implement it within mybb so it needs a bit more research.
