I used to be a bit more active in a few channels, like #emacs and #lua, but now I only have a few - the nixers channel, one for some offline friends, and a few of the tilde.town internal ones. Over time I've moved towards preferring slower, longer form communication over irc. The town ones are somewhat programming-oriented in nature, but a lot more than just that gets discussed.
