What's everyone's daily driver device? - x0ba - 08-08-2023 Could be anything, from a laptop, to a desktop, to a tablet. I personally daily drive a MacBook Air M1. RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - mcotocel - 09-08-2023 I daily drive a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 with NixOS + Hyprland running on it. I love how light it is RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - movq - 09-08-2023 Well, I still use the same tower PC I bought in 2013. Quoting the specs from my gopher hole: Code: :: Workstation / "pinguin" (2013) 32 GB of RAM was a lot back then and it has paid off. I expect to use this machine for many more years. RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - wolf - 09-08-2023 At home I still use the good and old Thinkpad X220 ( that i5 , 16GB RAM , ~= 1TB SSB ) with a good FreeBSD ( I need a Windows virtual machine, so vmm won't fit yet :( ). At work the company lent me a Thinkpad T14 ( newest i5, 16GB RAM, ~=500GB NVMe ). Windows machine, I cannot change ... I'm running my main system ( OpenBSD ) inside virtualbox ( feels like my life is a lie ... ). RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - ckester - 09-08-2023 I have an old Thinkpad T410 I use occasionally, but my everyday machine is an old (but still newer than the laptop) tower running KDE on MX Linux: Code: System: I keep thinking I should go back to one of the BSD's. At my age inertia is hard to overcome. I'm using KDE because (1) I'm avoiding glib, gtk, and gnome wherever possible; and (2) I've been brushing up my C++ and Qt skills. I do a lot of work in a terminal emulator (st). RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - venam - 10-08-2023 I've also been on the same machine for quite a while, and it serves me well. An Acer Aspire V5-551 A8, 6GB ram. (09-08-2023, 12:59 PM)movq Wrote: 32 GB of RAM was a lot backI still think it's quite a lot! Okay, let's say: "Machines with that amount of memory are more common these days." :-) RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - santafe - 12-09-2023 A T480 running OBSD, but i'd like to build a "mobile brain extension" (some calls it as a UMPC or cyberdeck) powered by a pi zero like small SBC + small but hires glass serial terminal + a small keyboard + an audio output jack (possibly via USB sound card) + and wlan for connectivity. I have already bought this SBC: https://shop.geniatech.com/product/xpi-3566-zero/ now waiting for delivery. RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - thedaemon - 12-06-2025 Copied the data from my website below. I use a custom desktop that I plan on using for many years to come. FreeBSD - 14.3 Ryzen 2700X - AMD ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 64GB RAM Dual 1TB NVME Dual 2TB Spinning Disce Dual 8TB Spinning Rust AMD Radeon 6750XT Lian-Li cube case 27" 180Hz SteelSeries Prime Gaming Mouse Vortex Tab 90M Wacom One / Wacom Bamboo touch Steam Controller Sega Genesis 6 button Controller RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - mishima - 06-07-2025 I've been working remote companies realized it was viable during lockdown; as a result, I've ditched my laptop. Here are my desktop specs: Gentoo Linux Intel i7-600k (4) @ 4.20GHz Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 (Got this for free from a buddy) 32 GB DDR4 RAM It's coming up on a decade since I originally built my machine, still runs great! RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - Evolution - 16-07-2025 Desktop (Gaming, 3D modeling): Windows 10 Ryzen 7 3700X XFX 6900XT Merc 32GB DDR4 3200 990 Pro 2TB NVME + 2TB HDD On the go my laptop which is a Lenovo Thinkpad P72 with: EndeavorOS Intel Xeon E-2176M Nvidia Quadro P4200 32GB DDR4 2400 1TB HDD The laptop is in dire need of upgrades but I don't consider it worth it as I'm still hunting for a P72 with the top configuration at a reasonable price (4k screen, E-2186M, P5200) so for now it gets to be my Linux test bed and impromptu server. Also a steamdeck LCD with a 1TB M.2 slapped in it, still need hall effect joysticks installed but my carpel tunnel is too bad to use it. RE: What's everyone's daily driver device? - strang3quark - 18-07-2025 Personal computers: - Framework Laptop 13, Arch Linux, Ryzen 7 7840U, 64GB RAM, 2TB NVME. - Thinkpad X230, i5-3380M, 512GB SSD (do not use it much nowadays) Work computer: - Apple Macbook Pro M1 Pro, 512GB storage, 32GB RAM, I don't like it, but I have no other choice... |
