Could be anything, from a laptop, to a desktop, to a tablet. I personally daily drive a MacBook Air M1.

I daily drive a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 with NixOS + Hyprland running on it. I love how light it is

Well, I still use the same tower PC I bought in 2013. Quoting the specs from my gopher hole:

Code:
:: Workstation / "pinguin"   (2013)

    OS: Arch Linux x86_64

    CPU  -- Intel Core i7-3770, 4x 3.40 GHz
    RAM  -- 32 GiB DDR3
GFX  -- Integrated Intel HD 4000, 1 GiB Shared Memory
    DSP  -- Dell S2421H, 24", 1920x1080, matte
HDD  -- Samsung SSD 870 QVO, 1 TB, SATA
         -- Hitachi Travelstar 5K1000, 1 TB, SATA
         -- Seagate ST4000LM024, 4 TB, SATA
    DVD  -- LG GH24NS 24x DVD-RAM
    LAN  -- Realtek RTL8111/8168 Gigabit (rev 07)
    MoBo -- Asrock Z77 Pro4
    Case -- CoolerMaster Silencio 550

32 GB of RAM was a lot back then and it has paid off. I expect to use this machine for many more years.

At home I still use the good and old Thinkpad X220 ( that i5 , 16GB RAM , ~= 1TB SSB ) with a good FreeBSD ( I need a Windows virtual machine, so vmm won't fit yet :( ). At work the company lent me a Thinkpad T14 ( newest i5, 16GB RAM, ~=500GB NVMe ). Windows machine, I cannot change ... I'm running my main system ( OpenBSD ) inside virtualbox ( feels like my life is a lie ... ).

I have an old Thinkpad T410 I use occasionally, but my everyday machine is an old (but still newer than the laptop) tower running KDE on MX Linux:

Code:
System:
           Kernel: 6.4.8-1-liquorix-amd64
           Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.20.5
           Distro: MX-21.3_KDE_x64 Wildflower October 20  2021
           base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
Machine:
          Dell product: OptiPlex 7040
          date: 01/26/2016
CPU:
Quad Core model: Intel Core i5-6500 bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Skylake-S family: 6

I keep thinking I should go back to one of the BSD's. At my age inertia is hard to overcome.

I'm using KDE because (1) I'm avoiding glib, gtk, and gnome wherever possible; and (2) I've been brushing up my C++ and Qt skills.

I do a lot of work in a terminal emulator (st).

I've also been on the same machine for quite a while, and it serves me well. An Acer Aspire V5-551 A8, 6GB ram.

I still think it's quite a lot!

Yeah, me too. Okay, let's say: "Machines with that amount of memory are more common these days." :-)

A T480 running OBSD, but i'd like to build a "mobile brain extension" (some calls it as a UMPC or cyberdeck) powered by a pi zero like small SBC + small but hires glass serial terminal + a small keyboard + an audio output jack (possibly via USB sound card) + and wlan for connectivity. I have already bought this SBC: https://shop.geniatech.com/product/xpi-3566-zero/ now waiting for delivery.
